• We specialize in RESETTING relationships. Our work and focus is to help troubled married couples heal. While other counselors work on many types of theories, we focus our energy in only a solution oriented approach.  This allows us to stay sharp and continually enhance our program using state-of-the-art research and data.
• We don’t follow the ineffective once-a-week counseling model that has only about a 7% success rate.
• We don’t just fix broken marriages, we help you rebuild them. Helping couples know where things went wrong, and offering real solutions to have a thriving marriage.
• Unlike other counselors who sometimes follow a manual that covers multiple issues regardless of if they apply to you or not; we focus ONLY on the issues you are facing and what you share with us. Our manual isn’t worked through cover-to-cover, rather we focus on the things that matter to you.

3-day Retreats:  typically Monday through Wednesday

4-day Retreats: typically Monday through Thursday

5-day Retreats: typically Monday through Friday

We do not schedule intensives on Sundays. However, we will work to customize a schedule to best suit your needs.

3. How to avoid and prevent conflicts, and in the event of arguments occurring, how to resolve them in a non-damaging way.

We use a Solution-Oriented approach to our ministerial counseling. It has been our experience and also backed by research, that this is the best type of counseling that provides results that can last a lifetime.

We are invested in your long-term success and this is what sets us apart from our competitors.  We have a solid after-care program as part of the total Intensive experience. You will go home with hand-outs and a manual that will help your relationship to grow and continue on the path we establish.  We also supply you with a marriage toolkit filled with resources to support you on the journey. In addition we offer 6 months of phone/email support at no additional cost. We want to be there for you even after you leave! Should you need additional support we offer paid follow-up programs, online-counseling and small group support that might be a good fit as well.

We are also producing additional classes (in-person & on-line) that you can attend for an additional charge.

Our office is located in the Charlotte, NC Metro area.  Charlotte-Douglas International Airport is a few miles away. CLT Airport has a very high number of direct flights from/to all over the country. Once your dates are confirmed our exact location will be disclosed.

Over 80% of our couples come from outside the state of North Carolina.

For your convenience, we will send you a list of hotels that are close to your counselor’s office.

Yes. Once your dates are confirmed and you have secured your payment, you will receive a welcome e-mail with further instructions. Our location is disclosed at this time as well as hotel options nearby. You will be asked to each individually fill out a “Confidential Questionnaire” and e-mail it back to us prior to our time together. Also, we suggest that you do not discuss your issues prior to the Intensive. Give yourself a mental break so you can be better equipped for your retreat. 

Yes. If there has been any physical violence in the past 12 months, or if a spouse is currently addicted to a substance, Intensive Counseling may not be the best fit for you. We would need to evaluate further before we could give the OK for a couple to come in certain circumstances.

Our in-session work is just the beginning of your transformation. In order to make drastic changes happen, you will have the opportunity to try out new behaviors in your homework.

In order to have a sucessful Intensive, homework is divided into 3 parts:

1. Some reading.
2. Some writing.
3. Ways to practice your new skills. Behavior requests.

Our Intensive Retreat typically consists of:

We will schedule you for a four hour block of counseling per day. After a quick rest and dinner break, a couple has another 2 to 2.5 hours of homework to do back at the hotel after dinner there is also morning homework involved.

Please make sure to get good rest as this is will be a long day. We also ask you to talk about your disagreements or start new ones during the days of your intensive so we can be of most help to your situation.

Since we see only one couple at a time, we unfortunately can’t include food and lodging. Our cost reflects this and gives you the flexiblity to stay and dine how you choose. This will give you the option to save money or stay at a luxurious hotel. After a couple schedules, we send them info on nearby hotels, and restaurants abound in the Charlotte area!

Currently, we don’t accept insurance. Insurance companies typically don’t pay for intensive counseling they pay for traditional one-hour-a-week counseling. 

No, you don’t have to stay at a hotel. However, we strongly recommend staying in a hotel for the following reasons:

• We want you to get away from all your day-to-day responsibilities, ie. kids, dishes, work etc.
• We beleive that this is an important time for you. Therefore, we want you to have more time focusing on just your spouse. 
• You will have a much fuller experience when you stay in a hotel.

Unfortunately, we are not able to accept any payment plans. You may apply for PayPal credit which works as a payment plan.  Partial scholarships may be available. Email us directly for more information on partial scholarship opportunities (hello@mymarriageintensive.com SUBJECT: Scholarship Information). Also, many churches offer sponsorship for intensives. We encourage you to reach out to your church and see if they can help cover a portion of the cost.
